We want to give you a new tool for your compliance arsenal.

The CPSC recently announced that it will have its investigators target products at the Ports that is believes are high-risk and which are subject to a mandatory CPSC requirement.

And the CPSC has just released a detailed list of those approximately 600 or so HTS product codes which you should carefully review:

If your product is on this list, it likely requires a Children's Product Certificate or a General Certificate of Conformity.

It is important to note that the list does NOT necessarily include all HTS codes where an electronic certificate may be required.

Even if your product is not on the list and it is subject to a requirement that CPSC did not identify, you - as the importer - are still ultimately responsible for eFiling a certificate whenever required. For this reason, having a good compliance team in place, both internally and using outside resources, is critical to make sure you understand the requirements for your product(s). Ignorance is no excuse if your container is detained for inspection.

Using this new list correctly may help benefit an importer’s risk score in CPSC’s system. This translates directly into having a lower chance of having a shipment stopped for inspection.
