On January 15, 2025, in a highly unusual move, CPSC withdrew its acceptance of four Chinese laboratories previously accepted for mandatory third-party testing.

If you have used any of the four labs (listed below) for required third-party testing and certification, you will have to quickly find a new lab to retest your products. CPSC will no longer accept tests provided by those labs for the purposes of certification.

The four labs are:

  • Shenzhen GTT Testing Technology Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1843)

  • Dongguan True Safety Testing Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1755)

  • Fujian Berton Testing Service Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1857)

  • Shenzhen HUAK Testing Technology Co., Ltd. (CPSC Lab ID 1710)

It is now illegal to import or sell products that require third-party testing that rely on testing by these four labs.

CPSC cited instances of falsified records, lost accreditation, and systemic failures in their testing procedures. It is uncertain how CPSC reached these conclusions as CPSC does not typically dispatch investigators to labs (in the U.S. or China) and relies wholly on other third-party accreditors to do that work.

The statement from Acting Chairman Feldman makes it clear that this may not be the last set of labs losing their accreditation. Given the political situation in the U.S. and the tone of the Acting Chairman’s statement, we expect that Chinese labs will continue to operate under heightened scrutiny.

With e-filing around the corner, it is important to stay up to date on lab accreditation. The identity of the testing lab is one of the data fields in the online filing system. It will be very simple for CPSC to screen imports based on testing labs, and stop products tested by labs that have lost their accreditation.

You can find the list of CPSC-accepted labs at https://www.cpsc.gov/cgi-bin/labsearch/. This list is updated frequently and is currently up to date, as the four labs listed above don’t come up when we search.
